As a London newborn photographer, I recently had the pleasure of capturing a relaxed, in-home older newborn session in North London with a gorgeous 13-week-old baby boy, his parents, and their much-loved dog. This session was the perfect example of how beautiful and meaningful newborn photography can be - well beyond those early days and weeks.
A relaxed, baby-led newborn session at home
My approach to newborn photography in London is always calm, flexible, and completely baby-led. There’s no rush, no pressure, and no strict timelines - just plenty of space for feeding, cuddling, and settling as needed. At 13 weeks old, this little one was more awake and expressive than a typical newborn, which made for such a special session. We captured gorgeous eye contact, gentle smiles, and those early glimpses of personality that make this stage so unique. If you’re worried you’ve “missed the window,” an older newborn session is a wonderful alternative.
Your home is perfect for newborn photography
One of the most common things I hear from families is: "I'm worried our home isn’t suitable for photos." The truth? Every home is suitable for in-home newborn photography. This session took place in a North London flat with only north-facing windows - but it worked beautifully. With experience and careful use of light, I’m able to create soft, natural images in any space. You don’t need a huge house - just a home that feels like you. Including pets in your newborn session
As a London family photographer, I always welcome pets - because they’re part of the family too. This session included the family’s dog, who joined us for some of the photos. Whether your pet is energetic or a little more reserved, I take a gentle, patient approach to include them in a way that feels natural and stress-free. These moments often end up being some of the most meaningful images from the session.
Why book an older newborn session?
As a London newborn photographer, as well as capturing babies in the first couple of weeks after birth, I also photograph babies who are a little older - and it’s such a lovely stage to capture. At around 8–16 weeks, babies are:
- More alert and engaging
- Starting to smile and interact
- Still small, cuddly, and very much in that “new baby” phase
It’s a beautiful balance between the sleepy newborn days and the more active baby stage.
Newborn photography in London homes
I specialise in relaxed, in-home newborn photography across London, including North London areas such as Islington, Hampstead, Camden, Belsize Park, Maida Vale, Queen's Park, Crouch End, Hackney and surrounding neighbourhoods. Your session takes place in the comfort of your own home, where everything you need is already around you. This allows for a more natural, meaningful experience - and images that truly reflect your family life.
Natural, timeless family photography
Sessions like this are all about connection - quiet cuddles, soft moments, and genuine interaction. Nothing is overly posed or forced. Instead, I gently guide you while allowing space for real moments to unfold. The result is a collection of timeless images that feel honest, relaxed, and completely personal to your family.
